The AMA-MSS is pleased to offer the Government Relations Advocacy Fellowship (GRAF) for medical students. This Fellowship represents a premiere, one of a kind opportunity for a medical student to develop legislative knowledge and advocacy skills by working directly with the AMA's Washington, D.C., staff. These are skills that will be an asset to you throughout your career, and you may find the experience to be one of the most enjoyable and worthwhile parts of your medical education.

Please submit the following by Jan. 31, 2008:

1. An updated curriculum vitae
   In addition to the standard content and contact information, please submit a curriculum vitae focusing on your prior legislative and political experience and your prior involvement (if any) with organized medicine.
2. Letters of recommendation
   Please include the following letters of recommendation:
   • A letter of endorsement from a leader in organized medicine (i.e., your local or state medical society, specialty society, or AMA delegation) who is familiar with your prior activities.
   • A letter of recommendation from a supervisor or faculty member who can evaluate your professional aptitude.
3. A letter from your medical school
   Please include a letter from your medical school Dean or designee that confirms you are in good academic standing and that your medical school is supportive of your application. Continued medical school enrollment is required.
4. Your personal statement of interest
   Please write a personal statement that demonstrates your past experiences in health policy or legislative matters, and why you would like to pursue this opportunity. Please address how you will communicate with younger AMA members and encourage activism. (< 750words)

Eligibility: Candidates should be enrolled in medical school and be in good standing as well as be a member of the American Medical Association at the time of application and maintain current membership status for the duration of the fellowship. All AMA medical student members interested in health policy and legislation are encouraged to apply. Relocation at your own expense to Washington, D.C., for the year is required from June or July 2008 through May or June 2009.

Salary: A salary of $3,000 per month will be paid. Additionally, compensation for travel expenses to the AMA-MSS and AMA Annual and Interim Meetings will be provided commensurate with existing AMA reimbursement policy. Health insurance is required and may be a continuance of your current health insurance or purchased independently.
