Committee on Long Range Planning

About the Committee

Purpose
The AMA-MSS Committee on Long Range Planning (COLRP) is responsible for thorough consideration of issues vital to the long-term health of the AMA-MSS. These issues are largely structural issues, e.g. how best to position the Regional Delegates in the AMA-MSS leadership infrastructure; however, these issues can also be policy considerations, like the generation of a handbook of policies held by other Sections of the AMA that would be relevant to medical education or other medical student concerns.

Goals

  • To better the long-term health of the AMA-MSS
  • To adequately represent the multitude of ideas and perspectives that are those of the entire AMA-MSS
  • To diligently weigh the pros and cons of each resolution that is referred to our committee for study
  • To use every source of information available to us when determining our recommendations for the AMA-MSS
  • To increase the visibility of COLRP and encourage participation of AMA-MSS general membership in its goals

For more information, contact one of your COLRP members.

COLRP and the MSS Operational Plan

Every three years, the MSS develops an Operational Plan (formerly known as the Strategic Plan) to guide the efforts of the Section. The 2006-2007 COLRP has been charged by the MSS Governing Council with developing the MSS Operational Plan for 2007-2010, which will be presented to and considered for adoption by the MSS Assembly at the 2007 Annual Meeting. In developing the 2007-2010 MSS Operational Plan, COLRP has considered input from a wide range of sources, including medical student members of the AMA through an online survey.
