AMA Foundation IMG Leadership Program

Recognizing Tomorrow's Leaders Today
 
The AMA Foundation IMG Leadership Scholarship, presented in association with the Pfizer Medical Humanities Initiative, offers an exciting opportunity for international medical graduates (IMGs) to advance their leadership skills. This program encourages involvement in organized medicine and continues leadership development among the country's brightest and most energetic leaders in medicine.

This year, scholarships will be presented to up to 10 IMGs demonstrating strong non-clinical leadership skills in advocacy, community service, and/or education. Recipients will attend the AMA National Advocacy Conference in Washington, DC in March, as well as special leadership programming prior to the conference. Recipients will attend the 2006 AMA National Advocacy Conference, as well as special leadership programming prior to the conference.

Eligibility criteria:

This award is limited to international medical graduates (IMGs) who are over 40 years old and have practiced (post GME training) for more than 8 years.

  • Demonstrated outstanding leadership in one or more of the following areas: advocacy, community service or education
  • Leadership experience, style and impact
  • IMG Governing Council members, representatives to an AMA Council or AMA Committee, or previous AMA leadership program recipients are not eligible

Award recipients will receive:
  • paid travel expenses to the Leadership Program and the 2006 AMA National Advocacy Conference, including airfare, hotel accommodations and a nominal stipend to help defray additional travel-related costs
  • Paid registration to all programming
  • Formal presentation of award at the Excellence in Medicine Awards banquet
  • Opportunity to participate in a lobby day on Capitol Hill
