AMA and AT&T teaming up to help physicians modernize their practices

A strategic alliance announced Tuesday between the AMA and AT&T will enable hundreds of thousands of physicians, physician organizations and medical societies nationwide to enhance patient care and reduce costs.

By integrating the AMA's AMAGINE™ physician community portal with AT&T Healthcare Community Online, the organizations are creating an advanced collaborative care and health information exchange platform. The combined platforms enable physicians to modernize the management of their practices with access to a greater number of health information technology (IT) tools.

Together, the combined platform provides an important opportunity to enhance patient care. As a seamless solution for advanced applications and data analytics, the platform will enable coordination and management of patient care and population health. It also will form a highly secure environment in which to share clinical and administrative data with other physicians, hospitals, payers and patients.

"With the AMA's extensive knowledge of physicians and patient needs, and AT&T's proven track record delivering technology solutions to clients, we expect that physicians and their patients will be able to enjoy the benefits of advanced health IT sooner and with more dramatic results," Robert Musacchio, senior vice president of business operations for the AMA, said in a news release.
