Get more involved in med ed as student rep to NRMP
Apply today to serve as the AMA student representative to the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Board of Directors. Applications are due Dec. 1; the selected student representative will serve a two-year term beginning July 2012. He or she will function as a liaison between the AMA and the NRMP Board, lending an equal voice to fellow members and sharing a valuable perspective to NRMP users. Download an application.
The NRMP is a private, not-for-profit corporation that provides a uniform date of appointment to positions in graduate medical education (GME). The NRMP coordinates the residency match process for applicants and residency programs. The NRMP Board directs the policies and procedures governing the match process, including defining the structure and timing of the Match, setting fees, and developing and communicating participant responsibilities.
Share your thoughts about latest AMA-MSS meeting
With the AMA Medical Student Section Interim Assembly Meeting now in the books, fill out the post-meeting evaluation form and provide your feedback on the various educational programs and activities held Nov. 10–12 in New Orleans. Your feedback will help the AMA-MSS determine programming for the next AMA-MSS Annual Assembly Meeting, which will take place June 14–16 in Chicago.
More than 800 medical students discussed about 50 items of business and participated in nearly 20 education programs during this year's AMA-MSS interim meeting. Education programs covered a range of topics including disaster preparedness, leadership development, writing a research paper, public health and health system reform. New Orleans health commissioner Karen DeSalvo, MD, gave the keynote address Nov. 11, speaking about rebuilding New Orleans' health system in the years after Hurricane Katrina.
