Duty hours: Where do we go from here?
In the March issue of the Mayo Clinic Proceedings, two articles explore the effects that limiting resident physician duty hours have had on the learning environment and patient care.
These articles will prompt discussion among resident physicians and their faculty and evoke memories for those who completed residency training in an earlier era. To read more on the discussion, read the March edition of the AMA's GME e-letter or access the articles at the Mayo Clinic Proceedings website.
Inspire the leader within you as a student ambassador
Be an advocate or spokesperson for the AMA Foundation—the philanthropic arm of the AMA—by serving as a student ambassador. As a student ambassador, you would learn about philanthropy by meeting and working closely with AMA Foundation staff and board members. You also would have the opportunity to represent the AMA Foundation at your school or at regional or state medical society meetings.
Founded in 1950, the AMA Foundation's mission is to improve health care by supporting programs in medical education, research and public health. Through partnerships with numerous donors, the AMA Alliance, AMA affiliations and other organizations, the AMA Foundation works to advance the health of the nation's communities and to strengthen the patient-physician relationship with its better-health initiatives.
Applications are due March 31. For an application, visit the AMA-MSS National Leadership Positions Web page and click on "AMA Foundation Medical Student Ambassador."
Visit the AMA Foundation website or e-mail Jordan VanLare, the current student member of the AMA Foundation Board of Directors, to learn more about the AMA Foundation and its programs.
