AMA-MAC election begins soon

The AMA Minority Affairs Consortium (MAC) Governing Council urges all of its members to vote in its upcoming election.

An encrypted ballot will be e-mailed to AMA-MAC members with viable e-mails on April 8. If the AMA-MAC office does not have your current e-mail address, please e-mail your full name and e-mail address before April 1.

If you are not an AMA-MAC member, call (800) 262-3211 to join or renew your AMA membership. Then sign up for a complimentary AMA-MAC membership. Only AMA-MAC members will receive the encrypted ballot and a reminder e-mail during the election period.

The election will close at midnight Central time April 24. If you have questions about the election, e-mail Cynthia Norwood of the AMA-MAC or call her at (312) 464-4743.

AMA president to speak at summit on health disparities in April

The AMA Minority Affairs Consortium invites AMA members to register for free for the eighth annual National Leadership Summit on Health Disparities, scheduled for April 11-13 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Washington, D.C. AMA President Cecil B. Wilson, MD, is scheduled to speak April 11 during the summit's opening session and a separate AMA reception.

To register free, enter the discount code MDCME-2K11 at the website. This is a special invitation for AMA members, so if you have not renewed or joined the AMA for 2011, call (800) 262-3211 or renew today on the Web.

This year's summit is offering six accredited sessions—with 8.5 continuing medical education credits available—addressing clinical solutions to disease disparities: diabetes, heart disease, hepatitis C, breast and lung cancer, and kidney disease. The summit also will cover the latest on Medicare and health system reform.
