LGBT Health Awareness Week starts March 28

LGBT Health Awareness Week starts March 28

The National Coalition for LGBT Health's ninth annual LGBT Health Awareness Week will take place March 28 through April 1. This year's theme, "Come Out for Health," is a call to action for community members, advocates, service providers and government officials to recognize health and wellness as an essential part of the social justice movement for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people. Read the complete call to action on the National Coalition for LGBT Health website.

AMA policy—H-160.991, Health care needs of the homosexual population—states its commitment to taking a leadership role in educating physicians on the state of research in and knowledge of homosexuality and the need to take an adequate sexual history. It also states its commitment in educating physicians to recognize the physical and psychological needs of their homosexual patients. View this and other AMA policies regarding LGBT issues.

How to protect yourself against identity theft

Identity theft has become increasingly common as the prevalence of online and other non-face-to-face transactions have proliferated. An AMA resource, "Steps physicians should take if in danger of identity theft," can help physicians protect themselves if they believe their identity may have been stolen. This resource offers steps physicians should consider taking if they learn that their credit card, checkbook, Social Security number or other confidential information that could enable impersonation has been lost or stolen.
