Private Payer Reform
Your Advocacy Resource Center (ARC) has developed a multi-pronged campaign for state advocates to address and improve the managed care environment for physicians and patients. The state advocacy tools created include model legislation, issue briefs and Q&A's on issues ranging from insurance transparency to physician data reporting to payment and delivery reforms.
Please contact Emily Carroll, JD, Senior Legislative Attorney, with any questions.
Increased transparency in health insurance benefits is an important step toward controlling health care costs. The AMA is helping ensure that patients receive the highest value for their health care dollars.
Unfortunately, most physicians spend much of their time each day dealing with prior authorizations, insurer contract issues, complex claim filings and other nonclinical activities, costing the practice money while doing nothing to improve patient care.
Today, data collection is a critical component of most physician practices, especially as physicians consider new types of payment structures that require regular performance analysis.
As the nation's health care system continues to evolve, physicians have opportunities to help shape and participate in new payment and delivery models that better meet the needs of their patients and practice.
