Advocacy Resource Center

The staff of the AMA Advocacy Resource Center (ARC) works across the country, state by state, on important issues that affect physicians' daily practice of medicine, including:
   • State health system reform
   • Preserving Medicaid budgets
   • Fair and transparent private-payer practices
   • Scope-of-practice issues
   • Medical liability reform
   • Ensuring truth in advertising by all health care providers
   • Public health improvement

Our work is critical to helping medicine approach state-level advocacy in a strategic, coordinated manner. We work to advance important state legislative and regulatory issues by offering strategies, resources and support to lawmakers and policymakers:

Advocacy support all year long

Our attorneys provide medical societies, lawmakers and policymakers targeted support throughout the year by aiding in legislative/regulatory drafting, crafting model legislation, testifying before legislative and regulatory committees and meeting with legislators and regulators on priority issues.

State legislative tracking in real-time

An enhanced legislative tracking service utilized by our attorneys provides comprehensive state legislative information, including real-time legislative developments, bills status, sponsors and amendments, and an interactive map.

Sponsorship of two state legislative conferences

We host two association-wide conferences bringing together medical association leaders to coordinate campaign development, strategies and networking.

State advocacy campaign toolkits

These useful materials combine resources and knowledge from the AMA, state and specialty societies, and outside organizations, and are distributed to states for implementation.
