AMA-YPS Governing Council Endorsement/Nomination Criteria

Governing Council Rules for endorsing AMA Board of Trustees and elected Councils candidates

The Governing Council will consider endorsements of candidates for AMA Board of Trustees and elected Councils that have been nominated by another organization (i.e., state or specialty society), and meet the AMA definition of young physician at the time of the election.

Only those candidates formally asking for an endorsement will be considered. All young physician Board of Trustees and Council candidates will be provided an opportunity to speak before the Assembly upon request. Candidates should submit a formal request for endorsement, along with their CV, and the letter of nomination from their sponsoring organization to the governing council by January 31 in the year of the election.

The Governing Council will give its endorsement to all qualified candidates formally requesting an endorsement from the AMA Young Physician Section. The YPS Governing Council will submit an informational report to the Assembly at the YPS meeting just prior to the HoD elections. This report will detail the Council’s process and recommendations. Current or past participation in the YPS Assembly or YPS Governing Council is not required to receive a candidate endorsement. The Governing will consider candidates with the following experience:

The Governing Council will consider endorsements of candidates that have been nominated by another organization (i.e., state or specialty society), and meet the AMA definition of young physician (at the time position commences).

Only those candidates formally asking for an endorsement will be considered. Candidates should submit a formal request for endorsement, along with their CV, and the letter of nomination from sponsoring organization to the governing council for decision.

The Governing Council will give its endorsement to all qualified candidates formally requesting an endorsement from the AMA Young Physician Section. The Governing Council will consider candidates with the following experience:

The Governing Council may consider nominating a YPS candidate for appointed AMA councils, committees, RRCs and the AMPAC Board. The YPS will consider nominated individuals who are supported by another federation organization (i.e., state or specialty society), and meet the AMA definition of young physician at the time position commences.

Only those candidates formally asking for the YPS nomination will be considered. Candidates should submit a formal request for nomination, CV, letter of support from a federation organization, and any other required documents for the nomination committee to the governing council for decision.
