Women in Medicine
Celebrate Women in Medicine Month in September
In 1849, Elizabeth Blackwell became the first woman to graduate from medical school. Nearly three decades later, Sarah Hackett Stevenson, MD, became the first woman physician to join the AMA. Since then, there have been many pioneering women physicians to thank and many accomplishments to celebrate—which you can do this September.
Join the AMA in celebrating "Women in Medicine Month" with this year's theme "Promotion, parity and progress: Shared issues. Shared action." Download a free flier and poster to help celebrate, and email wpc@ama-assn.org with details about your celebration plans for this observance.
During September, the AMA-WPC honors physician mentors who have offered their time, wisdom and support. Learn more about the mentors being recognized this year.
