WPC Project on Part-Time Hours for Physicians

The AMA Women Physicians Congress has partnered with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to explore issues pertaining to part-time/reduced hours employment for physicians. While part-time employment has been an option for physicians for years, recent studies are attempting to bring into sharper focus trends in this area and implications for physician workforce projections and policy. The AMA and the AAP Committee on Peditraic Workforce (COPW) Subcommittee on Women in Pediatrics added questions to the AMA Patient Care Physician Survey. These questions sought to obtain information on how part-time employment is defined, and if the respondents had ever worked part-time. The data demonstrated an increased interest in part-time/reduced hours of employment.
