Senior Physicians Group Governing Council Nominations

Senior Physicians Group (SPG) Governing Council 

Composition
The AMA-SPG is governed by a seven-member Governing Council appointed by the AMA Board of Trustees. The Governing Council provides recommendations and guidance to the AMA Board on senior physician activities. Members are eligible to serve two terms.

Vacancies
Two Members to serve a three-year term – appointed by the AMA Board of Trustees from open nominations. At least one incumbent position will be rotating off the Governing Council in 2012.

Background/Criteria
The purpose of the group is to support projects of interest to the senior physician community, including continued communication with colleagues, advocacy on behalf of senior physician issues, and ongoing development of member benefits and activities. Nominees must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a current member of the AMA, and 65 years of age or older
  • Demonstrate interest and/or experience in the AMA-SPG goals and objectives.
  • Must attend the Governing Council meetings (2-3), held in conjunction with the: (1) June AMA Annual Meeting (Chicago) and (2) November AMA Interim Meeting (various locations). Attendance is also required on regular conference calls (approximately 6–8 per year). 
  • Must be willing and able to carry out responsibilities as agreed to by the Committee; including, but not limited to, presenting periodic reports on AMA-SPG activities and participating in AMA-SPG projects and policy development/advocacy activities. 

Process
For current open positions, AMA members are encouraged to nominate themselves or other qualified interested individuals. Medical associations are also invited to nominate and/or support candidates. The AMA Board of Trustees will make appointments from the selection of nominees before June 1, 2012.

Nomination Deadline
All nomination materials (Nomination forms, Curriculum Vitae and corresponding reference letters) must be received to the AMA Offices by Feb. 14, 2012.
