Advocacy

The Section plays a key role in ensuring that AMA policy related to education, patient care, and clinical research reflects the best interests of medical schools.

Since its inception in 1976, for example, the Section has introduced approximately 170 resolutions that the AMA House of Delegates has adopted as AMA policy. These resolutions are directly related to specific concerns and interests of academic physicians and the medical education community. Some recent examples:

  • Removal of the Cap on Graduate Medical Education Positions
  • Competition for Clinical Training Sites
  • Support for Graduate Medical Education
  • AMA Support for Medical Students
  • Support for Quality in Graduate Medical Education
