Comments: The Yale New Haven Hospital-VA Connecticut Healthcare System Department of Anesthesia and Pain Medicine Fellowship is a one-year, ACGME-accredited training program. A total of two fellows are admitted to the program each year. We strive to provide an exciting, challenging, interesting and fulfilling year.
The basic goals of the Yale New Haven Hospital-VA Connecticut Healthcare System Center for Pain Medicine are:
-
Excellence in patient care
-
Excellence in physician training
-
Excellence in clinical and basic research
We operate in a mode of "continual quality improvement." We ask our fellows to work with us to achieve these goals and make this the finest pain program.
The Yale New Haven Hospital-VA Connecticut Healthcare System Center for Pain Medicine Fellowship Program's goal is to train physicians in a full spectrum of expertise in pain medicine through exposure to a wide variety of patients and management strategies. Fellows train in both interventional and medical approaches, and work with a variety of departments, including neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, palliative care, psychiatry, radiology, and others.
There is a well-developed didactic pain medicine curriculum. Conferences focus on chronic pain, cancer pain, interventional and spine related pain, and many other topics. In addition, fellows have administrative and teaching responsibilities. They give lectures and prepare educational materials for residents and medical students rotating through the pain center. Also, fellows have an elective month providing the opportunity to individualize the training experience.
The Yale New Haven Hospital-VA Connecticut Healthcare System Center for Pain Medicine Fellowship Program is a unique training program, affording fellows a closely-knit supportive learning environment with access to the activities and staff of the Yale New Haven Hospital, Yale School of Medicine, VA Connecticut Healthcare System, and other affiliated departments and programs. Fellows are given a broad exposure to clinical processes in treating pain and multiple research projects.
