Other opportunities

U.S. Department of State: You are invited to apply to serve as a Franklin Fellow at the U.S. Department of State.  The Franklin Fellows Program is a unique and innovative initiative in which you can grow professionally while doing public service.  If you are a United States citizen and have a minimum of five years professional experience, you will have the opportunity to work on global issues of vital importance to our country, including avian influenza, HIV/AIDS, the environment, counterterrorism, human rights, trade, energy and many others.  You may also work with other government entities including the White House and Congress.  For questions or to obtain more information, please contact Bill Pope at 202-261-8865.

The American Association for the Advancement of Science is seeking board certified licensed physicians to become "on-call" scientists, an initiative which aims to expand pro bono science in the service of human rights.  In particular, doctors are needed to document evidence of torture and other abuse for men and women fleeing persecution in their home countries and seeking asylum in the United States.  Please contact the AAAS at oncall@aaas.org if interested.

Volunteers needed for HIV patients in developing countries: The International Center for Equal Healthcare Access (ICEHA) is recruiting experienced physicians to volunteer 6 to 12 weeks in developing countries as clinical mentors to their local counterparts. ICEHA's clinical mentoring program is designed to rapidly scale-up skills of the local healthcare workforce, strengthening the quality of healthcare delivered in developing countries. For more information visit the ICEHA Web site.
