The AMA and the AMA Foundation offer a number of grants, awards, and scholarships for both individuals and MSS chapters.

MSS Chapter Involvement Grant
Application deadline: 30 days prior to event
The AMA-MSS Chapter Involvement Grant (CIG) Program provides each MSS chapter with up to $1,000 per academic year for chapter activities including recruitment and retention, chapter development, education, and community service events. A maximum of $250 or $500 is available for each event, depending on the type of event. Applications are due at least 30 days prior to the event.
MSS Chapter of the Year Award
Application deadline: April 30, 2009
The AMA-MSS Chapter of the Year (COTY) Award recognizes the true strength of our organization -- our local chapters. Applicant chapters are judged in a number of areas, including membership, community service, advocacy, innovation, and collaboration. The winning chapter is awarded a $500 grant to be used toward chapter activities and is recognized at the MSS Annual Meeting. All MSS chapters are encouraged to apply.
MSS Research Poster Award
Submission deadline: September 2009
The MSS/RFS Joint Research Poster Symposium is held annually at the MSS Interim Meeting (November). Research is presented in eight categories (biochemistry/cell biology, cancer biology, cardiology/vascular biology, clinical/epidemiological/health care, immunology/microbiology, neurobiology/neuroscience, radiology/imaging, surgery). The overall winner receives a free trip to the MSS Annual Meeting in Chicago.
AMA Foundation Physicians of Tomorrow Scholarship
Nomination submission deadline: May 29, 2009
Scholarship amount: $10,000
Physicians of Tomorrow Scholarships are awarded annually to third-year medical students. Students are nominated by their medical schools, and selection is based on academic achievement and financial need.

AMA Foundation Scholars Fund
Recipient submission deadline: July 1, 2009
Scholarship amount: $1,000 and up
The AMA Alliance raises money each year for medical schools to distribute to deserving students of their choice. The AMA Foundation tracks these donations for medical schools independently in separate accounts, and each medical school dean chooses scholarship recipients based on the funds available.

AMA Foundation Minority Scholars Award
Nomination deadline: April 15, 2009
Scholarship amount: $10,000
Approximately twelve Minority Scholars Awards are awarded annually to first- or second-year minority students (African American/Black, American Indian, Native Hawaiian, Alaska Native, and Hispanic/Latino.) Students must be nominated by their medical schools.

AMA Foundation Arthur N. Wilson, MD, Scholarship
Application deadline: June 15, 2009
Scholarship amount: $5,000
The Arthur N. Wilson, MD, Scholarship is awarded annually to a medical student who graduated from a high school in Southeast Alaska. Students apply directly to the AMA Foundation for this scholarship opportunity.

AMA Foundation Seed Grant Research Program
Application deadline: Dec. 11, 2009
Grant amount: Up to $2,500
The AMA Foundation Seed Grant Research Program seeks to encourage medical students, residents, and fellows to enter the research field. The program provides grants to help them conduct small basic science, applied, or clinical research projects. Seed Grant funds are intended to round out new project budgets, rather than sustain current initiatives.
AMA Foundation Leadership Award
Application deadline: December 2009
AMA Foundation Leadership Awards are presented annually to 15 medical students in recognition of strong, nonclinical leadership skills in advocacy, community service, public health and/or education.
Leadership Award winners are invited to attend a special leadership conference and are recognized at the AMA Foundation Excellence in Medicine Awards dinner in Washington, D.C.
Edward R. Annis, MD, Medical Student Scholarship
Application deadline: May 6, 2009
Scholarship amount: $1,000
Sponsored by the Florida Medical Foundation, the Edward R. Annis, MD, Medical Student Scholarship is awarded annually to a rising third or fourth year allopathic medical student who has demonstrated a commitment to organized medicine and public health initiatives.
