Joint Research Symposium

About the Symposium

The Joint Research Symposium is hosted annually by the AMA Medical Student Section (MSS), in coordination with the AMA Resident and Fellow Section (RFS), and with an educational grant from the Pfizer Medical Humanities Initiative.

The Symposium, which is held in conjunction with the AMA Interim Meeting, includes both poster and oral presentation competitions, with poster presentation prizes awarded in eight categories and oral presentation prizes awarded in two categories.

2009 Symposium Results

More than 200 physicians in training, including more than 70 medical students, participated in the Seventh Annual AMA-MSS/RFS Joint Research Poster Symposium, Nov. 6-7, 2009, at the AMA Interim Meeting in Houston.

  • Cardiology/Vascular Biology - Mohammad Madani, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center

  • Immunology/Microbiology - Glorilee Balistrieri, Medical College of Wisconsin
  • Neurobiology/Neuroscience - Nicholas Boehling, University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine
  • Radiology/Imagin - Elizabeth Copenhaver, West Virginia School of Medicine
  • Surgery - Shaun Patel, University of Michigan Medical School

Shaun Patel was awarded the overall poster presentation prize and will receive a trip to the 2010 AMA-MSS Annual Meeting.

2010 Symposium

The 2010 Joint Research Symposium will be held Nov. 5-6, 2010, in San Diego, with abstracts due in mid-September. Please join the AMA-MSS Announcements listserv to be notified when more information becomes available.
