National Service Project

The AMA-MSS will hold its National Service Project event on Friday, June 12. Continuing with the theme of Covering the Uninsured and Protecting Access to Care, the event will entail AMA-MSS members distributing information about access to care in Chicago and Illinois at the historic Navy Pier.

At a time when local and national conversations about health care are paramount, medical students will speak with local residents about the importance of access to care, health care reform, and the availability of safety net health coverage and services in the Chicago area through Medicaid, through the state's All Kids program, and through the city's various free and low-cost clinics and providers.

The deadline to reserve a spot at the A-09 National Service Project event has passed.

If you were unable to reserve a spot, please visit the “Together We Are Stronger Room" (Stetson F) on Friday, June 12, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The standing AMA-MSS Community Service Committee and the A-09 Community Service Convention Committee will provide rotating 30-minute problem solving sessions on how to strengthen your AMA's community service leadership on campus and how to increase service project collaboration between Chapters and within Regions.

Visitors to the “Together We Are Stronger Room” will also be able to participate in an on-site service project while these community service-related discussions are taking place. The AMA Government Relations Advocacy Fellow (GRAF) and AMA-MSS Committee on Legislation and Advocacy will host a Congressional letter-writing campaign to support H.R. 2332 (Future Physicians Serving America Act), which would provide tuition assistance for PeaceCorps and AmeriCorps graduates who attend medical school.
