Medical Education

The AMA is actively involved in medical education. We have representatives on the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) and the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), and are a parent sponsor of the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). The MSS has its own representatives to each of these bodies. In addition, the AMA donates more than $1.5 million annually in direct support of medical education through the AMA Foundation.

The AMA monitors issues and developments in medical education on an ongoing basis, and advocates for various reforms or programs based on policy set by the House of Delegates and the Medical Student Section. The MSS's key medical education advocacy issues include medical student debt, student work hours, and the clinical skills assessment examination.
