Health Affairs article looks at India's medical brain drain

A report in the March/April issue of Health Affairs, entitled "Doctors For The World: Indian Physician Emigration" by Fitzhugh Mullan provides an analyis of India's brain drain and how the loss physicians to other countries is hurting India's efforts to meet their own health needs.

"Numbers show sharp growth in medical faculty from China" The growth of [US medical school] faculty educated in China has been the most extraordinary thus far. The number of faculty members who received their training in China was 35 (ranking the country 41st) in 1981; by 1995, that number jumped to 341, ranking the country 9th. In 2000, it reached 763, surpassing the United Kingdom and out-ranked only by India and Canada."
