The Governing Council (GC) serves as the direct communication link between the AMA and Section members and has responsibility for the programs and activities of the Section. The GC has nine members: Chair, Chair-elect, Immediate past chair, Delegate, Alternate delegate, three Members-at-large, and Liaison to the AMA Council on Medical Education.
Each year, the APS Nominations Subcommittee reviews applications for open slots and makes recommendations to the APS Governing Council. If the proposed slate is approved by the Governing Council, it is then brought before the APS Business Meeting for a vote. Further nominations may be made from the floor of the Business Meeting. The members elected assume office at the conclusion of the Annual Meeting at which the election was held and serve until the conclusion of the Annual Meeting of the year in which their term ends.
