The AMA Council on Medical Education is involved in a wide range of medical education initiatives to help advance the art and science of medical instruction.

The AMA’s Initiative to Transform Medical Education promotes excellence in patient care by implementing reform in the medical education and training system from pre-medical preparation and medical school admission, through continuing physician professional development.

Another program, the AMA’s Innovative Strategies for Transforming the Education of Physicians, is a unique medical education research collaborative that brings together individuals and institutions from across the continuum of physician education to conduct research on how physicians learn.

The council also hosts informational resources concerning industry support of professional education in medicine and seeks physician feedback on issues of interest, such as the Federation of State Medical Boards’ process to maintain licensure.
