Public Health
The AMA Foundation is dedicated to improving the health of all Americans by hosting public education campaigns and supporting community service efforts across the country.
Grants
Fund for Better Health
The AMA Foundation, with support from the AMA Alliance, launched the Fund for Better Health initiative in 2002 to support public health community service projects in furtherance of the charitable and educational purposes of the AMA Foundation.
Health Literacy Program
The term “health literacy” refers to a patient’s ability to understand common health care communications, such as prescription instructions, test results and insurance forms. According to the Institute of Medicine Report on health literacy, 90 million people have difficulty understanding and using health information.
Healthy Communities/Healthy America Fund
The Healthy Communities/Healthy America Fund directs resources to helping some of our nation's most vulnerable populations. The grants offered by this fund support physician-led clinics in the U.S. that are already promoting healthier communities and addressing the needs of patients who face obstacles in accessing care. The American Medical Association (AMA) Women Physicians Congress (WPC) has established the Joan F. Giambalvo Memorial Scholarship Fund and partners with the AMA Foundation with the goal of advancing the progress of women in the medical profession and strengthening the AMA’s ability to identify and address the needs and interests of women physicians and medical students.
Worldscopes
Worldscopes is a Caring for Humanity project of the AMA and the AMA Foundation in cooperation with the AMA Alliance. WorldScopes hopes to collect 100,000 stethoscopes from US physicians and distribute them—with the help of humanitarian organizations—to communities around the world where medical supplies are scarce.
