Mr. Churchill joined the AMA Foundation as its executive director in August 2007. Previously, he served as vice president of development and alumni relations for Des Moines University. His professional career includes three terms in the Iowa House of Representatives and nearly two decades as a fundraising professional.

Mr. Churchill is a member of the City Club of Chicago and the Medical Society Fundraising Network (MSFRN).

His honors include receiving the Commanders Award for Public Service from the Department of the Army and being recognized by the Des Moines Business Record as one of the forty under 40 top business leaders. He received a B.A. in political science from Iowa State University and is currently pursuing his Masters in nonprofit administration at North Park University.

Krista started as a program officer at the AMA Foundation in December 2012.  She manages the programmatic and grant activities of the organization and also monitors and evaluates program results. Krista previously served as a grant officer at The Rotary Foundation where she helped pilot-test a new grant model to fund larger, higher-impact projects. She received a B.A. in International Relations and Spanish from Knox College and an M.S. in Public Service Management from DePaul University.

Katie Carter arrived to the AMA Foundation in June 2011. Katie is the executive assistant for Steven Churchill. Her primary responsibilities include assisting the executive director with board governance, development and communications, volunteer-management and administrative operations. Katie has 10 years of healthcare experience. She received a B.A. in Psychology and M.A. in Communications from Governors State University.

Jane is the director of annual giving and stewardship for the AMA Foundation and is responsible for the development strategy and management of the annual fund, along with donor relations and stewardship.  Jane’s professional development career spans the arts and education fields, having worked as an advancement officer for the College of Architecture and the Arts at the University of Illinois at Chicago  and the Chicago Shakespeare Theater before joining the AMA Foundation.  As director of annual giving and stewardship, Jane’s responsibilities include donor cultivation, stewardship, volunteer-management, fundraising, and the Annual Loyalty Circle Giving Society.

Hal Hothan joined the AMA Foundation as Finance Director in 2013.   He is responsible for recording, analyzing, and reporting all financial information as well as managing the investment portfolio.  A C.P.A., Hal started his work in non-profits at the Greater Chicago Food Depository over 20 years ago and has stayed in the non-profit world since.  He worked in a variety of for-profit enterprises prior to that.  His interest in accounting developed while serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Malaysia, working as a business advisor to four farmers’ cooperatives.  Hal earned an M.A. in Accounting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a B.A. in Economics from Stanford University.

Amy Jenkins joined the AMA Foundation as communications and events manager in January 2013. Previously, Amy owned a communications consulting business that launched the AMA Foundation Quarterly Newsletter and helped the Foundation tell its story. The AMA Foundation was her favorite client and she jumped at the opportunity to join the staff. A former AMA employee, Amy worked in the JAMA press office and ran AMA media briefings.

Amy is an award-winning writer and publicist. Her honors include a Golden Trumpet Award and two Silver Trumpet Awards from the Publicity Club of Chicago, multiple Skyline Awards from the Public Relations Society of America, two Communicator Awards of Excellence and two Communicator Awards of Distinction as well as an APEX Award of Excellence. She earned a Master of Science in Communications from Northwestern University, and a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communications from the University of Iowa. She attended the International Journalism Program at the City University of London.

As the database and financial coordinator to the AMA Foundation, Bell is responsible for managing the Raisers Edge and Financial Edge Databases, keeping current constituent information on gifts, and processing accounts payable. Bell has been employed by the AMA since 1973, where she started as a key punch operator, then advanced to managing a staff of eight operators. In 2000, she started working for the AMA Foundation.

Julie Milner first joined the AMA Foundation in March, 2008 as the Executive Assistant. After leaving to pursue her nursing degree full time, Julie returned to the Foundation part-time in 2012 in the role of Program Associate. As Program Associate, Julie is the primary point person to facilitate the scholarship and grant application process. Julie received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication in 2006 from DePaul University.

Anne has worked with the AMA Foundation in development since December of 2003.  As the development and planned giving director, she is responsible for the development strategy and management for individual giving.  Her responsibilities include major gift and planned giving donor cultivation, and solicitation; board engagement and development and growth of the AMA Foundation Legacy Society.

A member of the AMA Foundation staff since 2009, John works to engage corporations and foundations to support the AMA Foundation's programs and activities. His responsibilities include developing and writing proposals and managing the Corporate Roundtable program. John holds a B.A. in Journalism & Mass Communication from Iowa State University and a certificate in Philanthropy and Nonprofit Organizations from Northwestern University.
