Steven S. Martin
Steven S. Martin serves as President and Chief Executive Officer for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska and is a member of the board of directors. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska, an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, is the largest health insurance and health benefits administrator serving Nebraskans. The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska Corporation is a not-for-profit mutual insurance company and is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
Mr. Martin serves on the board of directors for the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) in Chicago, Illinois. The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association oversees all Blue Cross Blue Shield licensees serving over 100 million American members under the Blue Cross Blue Shield brand. As a member of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association board, Mr. Martin also serves as chairman of the BCBSA Federal Employee Program (FEP) board of managers. The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association FEP Program provides health coverage for 60% of all U.S. federal employees and their families. Mr. Martin also serves as a member of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association board Plan Performance and Financial Standards committee.
Mr. Martin serves as a board director and chair of the board audit committee for Prime Therapeutics, L.L.C. in Eagan, Minnesota. Prime Therapeutics LLC is a comprehensive pharmacy benefits solutions company, owned by eight independent Blue Cross Blue Shield plans, which integrate pharmacy claim processing, drug manufacturer contracting, drug utilization analysis, clinical programs, and consulting services into Blue Cross Blue Shield plans and other regionally oriented health plans, HMOs, and specialty pharmacy benefit organizations. Prime Therapeutics, LLC is currently the largest privately owned pharmacy benefit management administrator in the country.
Mr. Martin is active in his support of several Nebraska organizations. He serves as a board director for the United Way of the Midlands; advisory board member for the Salvation Army; board director for the Durham Western Heritage Museum; trustee & executive committee chair of the Nebraska Council for Economic Education; Governor of the Knights of AK-SAR-BEN; and, board director (2007 board chairman) for the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Martin serves as a member of the Nebraska Health Information Initiative (NeHII) board of directors which is the Nebraska state designated electronic health record exchange. Mr. Martin serves as vice chair and board director of the Wellness Councils of America which is the preeminent national not-for profit organization supporting employer and community based wellness initiatives. Mr. Martin also serves as an independent board director for Travel and Transport, Inc., an Omaha, Nebraska based, employee owned travel service management company that ranks among the top corporate travel companies in the country.
Mr. Martin earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Washburn University and his Master of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska. Mr. Martin is married to Dr. Amy Haddad. Dr. Haddad is the Dr. C.C. and Mabel L. Criss Endowed Chair in Health Sciences and the Director of the Center of Health Policy and Ethics at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.
