Patricia L. Austin, MD is an ophthalmologist practicing in Walnut Creek, CA, and was elected to serve on the AMA Foundation Board of Directors in June 2011.
Dr. Austin graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Nebraska where she earned BA degrees in Zoology and Mathematics. She went on to obtain her MD degree from the University of Iowa Carver College Of Medicine. Dr. Austin then completed her residency in both pediatrics and ophthalmology at the University of California San Francisco.
Dr. Austin is a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology. She has served as a past president of the Alameda Contra Costa Medical Association and past chair of the department of ophthalmology at John Muir Medical Center.
Currently, Dr. Austin is Immediate Past Chair of the Red Cross Blood Bank, newly elected to the Council on Constitution and Bylaws for the AMA and a member of the American Medical Association House of Delegates. She performs advanced anterior segment and cataract surgery at the Aspen Surgical Center in Walnut Creek.
