Emma Borders of Bernice, Louisiana was installed as President-elect of the AMA Alliance in June 2010.
She previously served as Director for three terms, on the AMA Foundation Committee for two terms and on the Health Promotion committee, as a member of the Bylaws committee and is currently serving on the Finance committee for a second term.
Borders has served the Louisiana State Medical Society Alliance and her local alliances in numerous positions. On state level, she served as president, 2002-2003, and is currently serving as advisor to the state president, editor of the state newsletter, chair of the Constitution and Bylaws Committee, Finance Committee, and AMA Foundation co-chair. On parish level, she has been a member of three Alliances: Shreveport, Bossier Parish, and Morehouse Parish; she has served as Alliance president for three terms: Bossier Parish, 1980 & 1988, and Morehouse Parish in 1998.
She also currently serves on the Board of Southern Medical Association Alliance on the Research and Education Endowment Fund Committee.
Her community activities have included the American Cancer Society’s, Relay for Life; Susan G. Komen, Race for the Cure; Parents’ Club - President; Episcopal Women’s Organization.
Borders holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Louisiana State University. Her husband, Robert, is an anesthesiologist and they have four sons and twelve grandchildren.
