Candidate’s Statement:
In seeking election to the AMA-IMG Section Governing Council, I present the following synopsis of my experience, qualifications, and goals for your consideration. As for my experience; I have actively participated in IMG affairs on all levels for over ten years; I am fully immersed in the daily struggles of IMG residents in my specialty as the Associate Program Director of a 100% IMG Family Medicine Residency. I serve as Chairman of the IMG Section Governing Council of the Michigan State Medical Society. I remain active in my hospital where I am the Chief of Staff and Representative to the AMA Organized Medical Staff Section. I am a Leadership Award recipient of the AMA Foundation’s Excellence in Medicine Awards. My experience with the National Arab American Medical Association, which I represent in the AMA, helps me understand the issues that IMGs deal with in different states and situations. All these experiences give me the skills that help me to be an effective representative for you.

I will work to increase the representation of the Section in AMA’s governance, and insure that our AMA continues to prevent discrimination against graduates of international medical schools by residencies and program directors. I will continue to testify in front of various reference committees on behalf of the IMG section to insure that our AMA continues to oppose any efforts to discriminate against licensed physicians on the basis of ethnic or educational background. I will also to enhance the association’s participation in the community of ethnic medical societies by increasing joint outreach activities with organizations such as API, APPNA and NAAMA.in the community of ethnic medical societies by increasing joint outreach activities.
